About
Us --------------- Where
are we now?
The
class of 1964 is a unique class. We're the first of the baby
boomers, born in 1946. There were more babies born in the US during
1946 than in any year in our history to that date. Now that we're
nearing retirement age, the government is wondering what to do about
us.
When the class of 1964
entered first grade in 1952, there were over 100 of us, the largest
Fairbury first grade class ever. We went to one of the two grade
schools, Thomas Edison and Isaac Walton, or "the south side"
and "the north side." And of course there were the Cropsey
kids at Cropsey Grade School.
In 1954, Fairbury consolidated
with Cropsey, and by the time we entered sixth grade the district
needed to build a new school for us, Lincoln Junior High. We attended
sixth and seventh grades there, and had eighth grade in the high
school building. In 1959, when we entered junior high, we had a
bunch of new friends, the Cropsey kids.
We'll
try to get as much material as we can in this section about the Class
of '64, including the biographies that were sent in by class members.
